Protective masks to be sold in support of new Soccer Fund

May 22, 2020

In response to the health authority’s recommendation that protective masks be worn to prevent the spread of COVID-19, SoccerPlus, the soccer apparel and supplies store owned and operated by Chilliwack FC, will be selling branded masks as a fundraiser for the new Chilliwack FC Soccer Fund created by the association’s Executive.

“We know our membership is eager to resume soccer activities as soon as possible while following health and safety precautions,” chairperson Andrea Laycock said. “Though we haven’t been given direction as of yet as to whether masks will be required while players and coaches are on the field, the Chilliwack FC Executive is certainly considering making masks a requirement for everyone when they arrive at the field and when they leave it.”

The 2 ply polyester washable and reusable masks are one size fits all with adjustable straps, in Chilliwack FC blue, will be sold for $12.99 each with $2.00 from every mask being donated to the Soccer Fund. Online orders via the following link are encouraged: https://www.soccerplusbc.ca/chilliwack-fc-face-mask.html

“The Chilliwack FC Executive believes no child should ever be turned away from playing sports as a result of their family’s financial situation nor should any family be put in a situation of facing financial difficulty so that children can play sports,” Laycock said. “The Chilliwack FC Soccer Fund will provide financial assistance to players and their families who wish to participate in Chilliwack FC but find themselves financially disadvantaged.”

Funds received through the organization’s fundraising efforts with the Chilliwack Chiefs, Mount Cheam Lions Club, the concession at Exhibition Field, HUB Barton Insurance Cash for Kids, and select Chilliwack FC branded merchandise to be available at SoccerPlus will also be contributed to the Soccer Fund.

Once other resources such as Jumpstart, Athletics for Kids, and KidSport have been exhausted, families will be able to apply to the Soccer Fund for assistance with their child’s registration fees. Applications and further information will be provided on the association’s website ChilliwackFC.com

Revised June 4, 2020.

May 5 – Chilliwack FC Programming Update

May 5, 2020

May 5, 2020
Dear Chilliwack FC Members,
We hope you’re all keeping safe and healthy and managing in these unprecedented times. We felt we should bring you up to speed on where Chilliwack FC is at in terms of the spring soccer refunds and the eventual return to play.
Spring Refunds
We have now completed the spring refund process and we are no longer taking any refund return requests. Thank you to our Treasurer Jon Freeman for his efforts to get this massive job done. We have refunded over $127,000.00 back to you, our members.
E-Transfers – for those of you have chosen this option in the survey you should have received your refund by now. There are about a dozen or so people yet to claim the e-transfer so please check your email.
Cheques – if you did not complete the survey or requested a cheque, that cheque is now available for pick up at SoccerPlus, which is located at the Chilliwack Coliseum (formerly Prospera Centre). The store is at the back of the arena next to Club XO. The store is reopening this week and the hours are Tuesday to Friday 10am -5pm and Saturday 11am – 4pm. We will not be mailing out the cheques.
Credit Towards an Upcoming Season – once we have been given the greenlight and our programs set up, we will reach out to you about registering for the season of your choice. Please note, you will need to register directly with us, you won’t be able to do it on your own from home. This is the only way we can ensure you receive a credit.
Return to Play
Chilliwack FC is anxiously awaiting word from its governing bodies BC Soccer and Canada Soccer that the suspension of sanctioned activities has ended and we can start looking at returning to play. Once that happens, we will then look to the City of Chilliwack to reopen the fields which remain closed until the end of May, a closure Chilliwack FC continues to support. We must do our part to ensure we all are following the directives of the Provincial Health Authorities as hard as they may be on our sport.
BC Soccer is currently working on a phased in return to play structure for us to follow. They have suggested that our return to play will start with socially distanced training/skill development and eventually return to game play. However, what all of this will look like and all the parameters that will encompass it we are not sure of yet. Nor do we know when all of this will happen as everything will need to be approved by the Provincial Health Authorities. And while BC Soccer is working on how we will return, Chilliwack FC is also working on a variety of options to get the kids back on the pitch. As soon as we have the greenlight from BC Soccer, Canada Soccer, and the City of Chilliwack we will let you all know about our plans and the associated registration process that goes with them.
SoccerPlus
Chilliwack FC purchased SoccerPlus back in November, with the idea that it will help us control our brand as well as eventually offer a revenue stream that will help offset program costs. When we return to play, or even before, we would appreciate you supporting the store for all your equipment and apparel needs. It is to your benefit in the end if you do. Right now, all Umbro Training wear is on sale for $19.99. Our hours are Tuesday to Friday 10am -5pm and Saturday 11am – 4pm.
As always, if you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly.
Sincerely,
Andrea Laycock
